Tyrion's children are in danger from the groves. his unparalleled success in the arena has shown them that there are better ways to get excellent barratti. as Tyrion races to Colne to gather his brood, he is fully aware that life with him will be a horror. but perhaps as slaves of the Illeniel grove and with his training, a few might survive.

Michael continues to relate the history of the house of Illeniel with all it's pain and love. characters are easily accessible, locations are readily imaginable and the emotions are so close to the surface that you can touch them. read on...

I enjoyed this entire series, every last book of it. Unlike some other series that I have read, the story line has run true and interesting throughout all the books. I have now moved on to the sequel Mageborn Series and am enthralled by it.

Extremely entertaining!

This story was wonderfully written. I couldn't swipe through the pages fast enough. It's just long enough for a nice escape, but it's not for the faint of heart. I would definitely peg it as an erotic horror story. For me, it was something new and exciting to read, and it was very tightly plotted and paced.

OK....I read it. I always finish what I start to read! It gave me a MAJOR EEWWWW. But I have to say it was intense and weirdly sexual. The author has real talent. I just don't find giant semi-calamari critters sexy I don't care HOW many tentacles they have!

The rainbow book that never was.

Was looking for this book for a bit and wanted to have it before the 20th anniversary of hackers. Glad I found this seller. Book arrived on time, same condition as described. Plus the seller did not inflate the price even with the price gouging that was going. The seller may have missed out on making some extra money but got a 5 star reputation/rating from me and I would recommend buying from them.

As far as the book itself goes... It was written in 1985, nothing in book... This is a great book for some one that is looking to own a little piece of computer history or a fan of the 1995 cult classic movie "Hackers".

Little Star is "Big" in the Eyes of Jesus!

The story of Christmas has been told so many times. We have heard it. We all know it. We sing of it for weeks each year. It is beautiful just the way it is. It seems to say everything.

Every now and then, however, someone comes along with a bright imagination, who can add a twist that seems to bring out an untold aspect or unseen beauty of the story. It doesn't need to be real. We all learn from myths because they can express the truth about something that leaves us with new meaning and gives us a way to teach values in a powerful and special way.

That's what Anthony DeStefano has done for us in this latest of Children's Books. It is very enjoyable book. It contains a very nice Christmas story for young children. It also presents a value that they can understand and that we want them to learn as part of living. The story and message is one which I think children will think about, one which they will remember, and one which they can try out living in their lives. They can learn, even at an early age, the fulfillment they can experience in loving Jesus and in making real sacrifices to love Him and others.

We have had our Deacons (as Santa Claus) read this to our children two years in a row at our Christmas Children's Masses. It was received well because it was directed specifically to these young people (although all the parents thoroughly cherished it). We also used another of his books on Palm Sunday, The Donkey That No One Could Ride.

It's well done, illustrates the book, and captures the flavor of it well. It kind of gives you a chance to try it on before buying! Every Christian child should have this book !!!

This is a lovely book for children which sends a message about giving of self for a purpose... and justifies the decision to use
stars on the top of Christmas trees instead of other bits and bobs. Even the youngest child would enjoy the story, and
it adds to the festivity of trimming the Christmas tree. This book is a keeper. Adults will have something to think about.

This was a great read for those of us who beat up on ...

This was a great read for those of us who beat up on ourselves about our creativity. He made me laugh all the way through the book and I sat and read the entire book in one sitting! I just couldn't put it down. This is a book that I can go to when I feel like my monkey mind is chattering out of control and it inspires me to embrace my creative side and to encourage others who feel they are not good enough. Doodling, sketching and doing my art again was revived by Danny Gregory because of his story and passion to do what you love. I love doing my art and I found my passion that was lost so many years ago. I will not ever give up on myself again. Thanks Danny!

It's worth the time and money invested in it!!

I'll preface this by saying that I'm a fan of Danny Gregory; he's seen a lot, he's done a lot, and he's been through a lot. In short, I believe he knows what he's talking about. But . . . as I read through Shut Your Monkey, I kept thinking, "How did he get inside of my head?" I had never realized before - really - that ALL of us have our own monkeys with which we have to deal, and this realization - intellectually and emotionally - helped me a lot. Now, I know I'm not a "basket case", but I do know that self-doubt and insecurity have held me back in several instances. Danny Gregory's book helped me bring my monkey out in the open where I could deal with it, suggested several excellent coping mechanisms that do work, and even went so far as suggesting some "banishing mechanisms." I can't yet vouch personally for the banishing mechanisms, because they are long-term behavioral changes and I just read the book about two weeks ago. However, I can say this without hesitation: this book has helped me, and I'll probably read it several more times in the future. It was definitely worth my time and money.

Ohhhh, I love this little book. When I purchased it, I was in a deep, bad creative rut. About a third of the way through, I felt encouraged and equipped with the mental tools to just get back to creative work. I am a huge fan of Danny Gregory's books and paintings, and this book is no exception. If you are feeling stuck and like quitting art forever, read this book. It's genuinely helpful.

The code is a real mess. Source files are missing, class member variables not defined, calls made to misspelled functions, basic syntax errors. Here are a few of the problems I have run into:
- Missing Source Files:: BVPmechanisms.hpp. So files like BVPSOlver.cpp can't compile
- Undefined members variables: AssocArray::contents. Can't build without it
- Basic syntax errors: (if ass2 == this). Should be if(ass2 == this)
- Incorrect function calls: standardDeviation(). Should be standardDeviation(x)

Aside from all the kindergarten errors, the author over uses templates to such an extent that simple routines are hopelessly obfuscated.

I think he built it on an old version of Visual C++. This is because the code fails to build on modern compilers with tighter error checking.

I have no idea why the other guys love this book so much, they must never have tried to build any of the examples in it ... which is weird because the whole reason I bought the book was to begin building a library of financial tools.

The best book in c++ instrument pricing, period.

Let me just say that I have a few financial modelling books, from Dr. Brooks to Mr. Joshi, and this is the best book by far. It clearly explain how to price a particular instruments using this poweful language. The book uses Standard Template Language (STL), by doing so your code are more readable and much faster. If I only had this book a few years back. Now I must say this book is for C++ programmers and Quants you really need to know C++ from beginning to end, templates, pointers, references, classes or that stuff you need it. This is the only book that comes with working code, it doesn't matter what type of compiler you have the code in the CD will work. Mr. Duffy explains how to model one factor and two factor Black-Scholes equations using finite differences, options(vanilla, exotic),interest rate and much more. The CD even comes with an Excel driver to transfer your data to Excel. Quant superstar Justin London is coming with his new book in a few months, and that book might over take this one, but as of right now this is the best C++ financial pricing book around. You can't go wrong with this one.

Computational Finance made efficient

This book encapsulates all that is wonderful about OOP and shows how generic programming techniques (based on the STL) can be effectively applied to financial engineering and numerical analytic problems. The book requires only a first-course level knowledge of C++ (at the level of for example Ivor Horton's Beginning C++) and a first course level knowledge of Financial Mathematics (at the level of for example John Hull's masterpiece) and takes the reader on an entertaining journey through the basics of the STL and the applications of STL constructs to computational-financial and numerical-analytic problems, especially those relating to the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Also, the author makes a persuasive case for finite-difference methods and deals with a few subtleties of the Crank-Nicholson algorithm. For best results, it should be read along with a decent book on the Standard Library (for example the one by Nicolai Josuttis). Overall, it's a pleasure to read and learn from, on a par with Mark Joshi's little design-patterns volume, and more detailed!

In God We Trust

A great book on the purpose of life. What more could you ask for? And it only takes about 3 hours to read.

Like almost all of philosopher Peter Kreeft's books, this book is full of wisdom, which is more precious than rubies. There are lots of insights in this book. One of the first is that the whole purpose of life is to be a saint. That in itself makes the book worth reading.

But there are other nuggets in this treasure chest of a book. For example, Kreeft points out that our feelings are not only motivator and rewards (and punishments), but feelings are a way of seeing the truth (in addition to reason, intuition, and experience).

Also noted is that faith is trust in God. And to top it off, being a saint brings not only happiness, but joy, which is happiness on steroids. This may be the first book to state that there is a level of pleasure or peace beyond happiness, called joy, and it is much stronger than happiness. And saints are joyful.

Another chapter explains how it is that people sin, when the wages of sin is death. As Kreeft writes, "For another thing, our passions are disordered and are stronger than our reason. For still another thing, our will is weak, so even when we see the truth, we often do not will it. So there are three reasons Plato is wrong: because our reason, our passions, and our will are all fallen."

The book points out that for God to be God, He must be Good, Omnipotent and Omniscient, and any God without those traits isn't really God.

This book is also a strong refutation of the problem of how a Good, Omnipotent, Allmighty God can allow evil to occur. The answer is given in the Bible in Romans 8:28, which says that "For those who love God all things work together for the good." In other words, no matter what life throws at you, you can be confident that in the end, all will be well. In the end, God will set things right. The logic of the book's argument that this must be true is quite compelling.

To top it off, this book gives 4 definitions of 'heart' that are heartful and worth studying. Add to that the real reason people aren't saints is that they really don't want to be a saint. They're afraid it's too demanding, too ascetic, ignoring that it's the entire reason we are here.

To summarize, it's reasonable and wise to place one's faith in divine providence, and "In God We Trust" isn't just on our currency, but it's the foundation of wisdom.

I first purchased the Kindle edition simply because I like Kreeft's writing and was curious about the title. Today I have ordered 3 paperbacks to give as gifts!
I wanted to write a solid review for this book, and I have been sitting at my desk writing for 30 minutes. But I cannot find the words to use for this book that weaves together solid theology, philosophy, and common sense to bring renewed hope and love into our lives.
It is a book you can give to ANYONE--believer or not! It is written simply, but in a way you will have to re-read the page as you ask yourself: "Is this for real?"
He has his own sense of humor that he interjects at just the right time to make a point that zings to your heart.
You will laugh...there are moments you will stop for a while to reflect...you will cry...you will pray.
It is one of those volumes that will be by my chair along with my Bible and Catechism to be read over and over.
I recommend it to anyone with one word of caution: you won't be able to stop with one book, you will quickly want to share it with friends, family, and neighbors.
Kreeft has made the Good News clear, desirable, and share-able! Your heart will find love, hope and renewal!
Turn off the tv and give Kreeft ten minutes a day for two weeks---it will change your life!!!

Rooms With a View

For Helen, the road to depravity is not a very long one. In fact, it only stretches as far as the house next door and the garden, which has plenty of conveniently situated foliage to hide the naughty goings on. It also affords Helen's soon-to-be ex-husband plenty of hiding places for his voyeuristic pleasures. Yes, there are debauched couplings aplenty here: this is, after all, a Ray Gordon novel. However, I had to keep reminding myself of that because much of the novel's first half is, by his standards, quite tame. It's never less than good filthy fun, though.

Helen decides that a career in prostitution may be the way forward for her. Now that her dull marriage is coming to an end, she has discovered the delights of unhygienic sex with the couple next door, her husband's friend and a couple of strapping young gardeners. And then, things get really interesting.

Fans of Ray Gordon will not be disappointed with this novel. Once again, he displays his incredible imagination as far as sexual situations go. However, the novel rehashes some well used Ray Gordon plot lines and I have to say that the blackmail storyline is poorly realized here and its resolution is weak. If you've never read Ray Gordon before, his brand of erotica is crude, coarse and dirty. If you like this novel, I'd also recommend Sex Crazed, Sex Thief (Blue Moon) and Uninhibited.

Looking Forward to the Next One

After divorcing her controlling (& sexually boring) husband of ten years, a woman makes up for lost time with her neighbors, who are a lot more kinky than they let on. The sex scenes are pretty good, but I skimmed over the BDSM ones (not really my thing). I'm looking forward to reading more of his work.

Genre Blending Done Right

Desertera is a world without water, or at least without much. Imagine a steampunk world in which the steam has dried up, and the denizens are living without their technologies.

There's a huge division between the rich and the poor. The king, a despot who has set himself up as the only voice of law in the kingdom, has just married for the tenth time--the first nine wives having been executed for adultery.

Aya Cogsmith had a happy life with her father, until the day that he disappointed the king and was summarily executed. With no other family, she ended up on the streets, and eventually at The Rudder, a house ill repute doing the kind of work that "illed" the repute. Then, she gets an opportunity. A Lord approaches her with a plan to take down the king, and promises to help get back her father's old shop if she'll assist him in trapping the king.

Of course, it's more complicated than it seems on the surface. Not everyone's motivations are what they say they are. Some people's word is worth more than others. And Aya is risking her life, heart, and happiness on a chance for something better.

I really enjoyed this story. Aya was an intriguing and complicated woman, with believable motivations. Watching her navigate the intrigues of court life was fascinating, and allowed the author to show us the world without losing the story to the world-building, always a tricky balance in created-world stories like this one. There was a good balance of romance, mystery, and conspiracy. The bleakness doesn't overwhelm the hope, nor does it feel like the struggles of the characters are pushed aside too easily. Everyone, even the villains, is complex and nuanced. In this way it's a book with something for everyone.

If I have one complaint, it's that a surprise at the end was not a surprise to me. But it was a surprise to Aya--believably so--so it still worked.

Perfect Balance of Excitement, Romance and Suspense!

I really enjoyed The Cogsmith's Daughter. The steampunk world that the author creates is not only extremely well written, it is complex and beautiful.

Aya is our main character. She is an orphan who works as a sex worker in order to survive in a world where she feels like she doesn't belong. With her parents dead, she doesn't have a trade to learn and thus must work at whatever she can. I really loved Aya! She is everything you could want in a strong female roll. She is strong and determined with a clear goal but yet she is also soft and delicate. The king is easily hated. He is annoying and disgusting and I found myself wanting to punch him in the face multiple times.

Dellwyn is Aya's best friend and fellow sex worker. She helps Aya through her troubles and is there for moral support. I would have maybe liked to see a little more development of Dellwyn. We know little of her past, but this is possibly something that will come out in the rest of the series. The prince is sweet and caring and a good choice as a male hero.

I did figure out who the prince was shortly after he was presented in the story but that didn't take away from the suspense and honestly, I did second guess myself several times throughout the story. I really enjoyed all of the the foreshadowing, I have a soft spot in my heart for authors who use strategically placed hints in their writing..and if you can do it successfully (which Colby did), thats even better!

I am not a huge fan of romance plots but I found the love scenes to be not too over done. There is enough detail to understand the heat of the moment without going overboard, which I find to be an extremely difficult balance to achieve!

I would say my biggest issue (although I have not read the final product and this could have been changed) is that In the beginning you are kind of just thrown into this world without any explanation of what things are. I will admit (maybe because this isn’t a genre I read) that it took me a few pages to start to understand the terms and get a good picture of the area where it all takes place. However, once I did, I really enjoyed the story.

Overall I really enjoyed the book. I thought it had the right balance of suspense and excitement with romance.The book ends with a few unresolved issues and some hints about what could take place should a second book arise! I really look forward to reading what the author plans to do in her future works, with this story and more!

Prepare to be Swept Away!

I was instantly intrigued by the plot of The Cogsmith's Daughter and pre-ordered the book a few weeks ago. I went into it with unusually high hopes, seeing as I've never read any works by this author before. I have to say, Colby's writing did not disappoint. As the reader, you are instantly drawn into a beautifully unique world. The blending of steampunk with desert wasteland seemed to work quite well. In fact, the setting was one of my favorite things about the book. Colby does a fantastic job of drawing you into the web of her storytelling. From moment one, you can almost feel the gritty desert winds sweep you along on Aya's journey of growth and revenge. With all the intrigue, you won't want to put the book down till it's finished, and probably not even after that! The only issue I have is I really wanted to know what was behind that blasted door, and I thought for sure a certain important item would open it. Oh well. I suppose I'll just have to wait for the next book to see where it leads!
