Lena Sisco is a former military intelligence officer and interrogator who has trained Department of Defense (DoD) personnel in detecting deception, interrogation, tactical questioning, elicitation, counter elicitation, and crosscultural communications since 2003. She is the president and cofounder of The Congruency Group, LLC, and a senior instructor at the Body Language Institute in Washington, D.C. She has appeared on television shows such as Dr. Drew on HLN. She has a BA degree from the University of Rhode Island, and an MA degree from Brown University, and resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Skills in Interrogation and Lie Detection Made Interesting and Simple

Ms. Sisco has a pleasant, easy-to-follow writing style and her information is clear. I loved the abundance of real-life examples. Where else would you read such things?

Below is a brief outline of most (not all) of the content. She focuses on a 5-step process that uses the acronym REBLE:

R Is for Relax (both you and the person with whom you are communicating);
E Is for Establish Rapport: Getting People to Want to Like You and How to Change Your Personality Preferences to Meet Theirs
B Is for Baseline: Using All Your Senses
L Is for Look for Deviations: Behavioral Incongruence
E Is for Extract the Truth: Verbal Tells

On the run from anonymous contract killers, ex-sheriff Cork O'Connor goes to ground in a remote corner of Michigan's Upper Peninsula in Krueger's subdued sixth thriller. In the 10 days since the end of Mercy Falls (2005), Cork has picked up a gunshot wound to the leg. His widowed veterinarian cousin, Jewell DuBois, is able to install a Penrose drain, leaving Cork largely immobilized. Cork's friend, security specialist Dina Willner, appears to watch his back, yet most of the plot shifts away from potential shootouts with hit men to Jewell's 13-year-old son, Ren; Ren's tomboy pal, Charlie; and the corpse of a teenage girl found floating in the Copper River. As usual, Krueger conveys a solid sense of place, the woodlands near the shore of Lake Superior, northwest out of Marquette, "where scenes from Anatomy of a Murder had been filmed." But the segue to the familiar children-in-peril theme feels like a cop-out, especially since the previous, superior novel had primed readers for something more intense and harrowing. (Aug.)

I have been following William Kent Krueger's Cork O'Connor series from the volume one. Cork is a great character excellently presented and developed by a wonderful writer. Krueger's ability to describe the challenging climates of Minnesota and other locations his characters travel to puts you there and has you going to your closet to find the proper attire. Great author, Great Series.

William Kent Krueger has impressed me yet again. This book sees Cork away from his family and the main characters from earlier books, but delivers a great set of players and a page turner that should come with an addiction warning. Fantastic and my favorite so far.

Terrific storyline along with very visual descriptions of the Minnesota area and history. The new later age of time for Cork was most interesting. A great read.

Crime families who had been involved in armed robbery, protection rackets and extortion now sought to control the recreational drugs trade and forged links across Europe to import wholesale quantities of cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamines. By 2002, shootings were running at one a week.

HOODS uncovers how outlaw Yardies pioneered the sale of crack cocaine and imported the ruthless violence of the Jamaican ghettos; how young black gangs from the so-called NG Triangle of the Meadows, St Ann’s and Radford areas clashed in a series of turf wars; how the shadowy Dawes Cartel built a lucrative international drugs empire; and how the Bestwood Cartel and its terrifying leader, Colin Gunn, corrupted police officers and left dead and maimed in its wake. As local police struggled to cope with the mayhem, MI5 and the National Crime Squad launched a massive undercover investigation into the Nottingham ‘untouchables’. It led ultimately to the dismantling of some of the UK’s most powerful crime networks. HOODS is a stark account of what happens when the rule of the gun supplants the rule of law and fear stalks the streets.

Carl Fellstrom is a British journalist, writer and broadcaster who specialises in crime and investigations. He has written for all the major UK national newspapers contributing particularly to the Sunday Times, The Observer, Sunday Telegraph and Daily Mail.
He has also worked for the BBC and Channel 4 on documentaries including assistant producer for Undercover Prisoner for the Dispatches series which highlighted life inside one of Britain's prisons in 2008 and more recently worked with Roger Cook on the BBC documentary An Abuse of Trust. In December 2008, he published the highly acclaimed and controversial book Hoods, a best selling in-depth study of gun crime, drugs and gangsters in the city of Nottingham. Just got this book the other day. The book is riveting, and the story is a true story. I would highly recommend this book. It is a true story and investigation into the drug cartel in the City of Nottingham, England. Scarey what goes on.
