About the Author

V.J. Manzo is Assistant Professor of Music Technology and Cognition at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is a composer and guitarist with research interests in theory and composition, artificial intelligence, interactive music systems, and music learning. He is the author of the book MAX/MSP/Jitter for Music on programming software-based interactive music systems for composition, performance, instruction, and research. Will Kuhn is the Department Chair and Music Technology instructor at Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Ohio. In 2006, he designed an innovative Music Tech curriculum focused on amateur music production, which as of this writing involves over 350 students annually. Great resource for beginners and professionals!

As a classically trained music professor who dabbles in music technology, this has been a terrific book to prepare me to introduce Ableton and a new way of thinking about composition to my students. I am currently working my way through the book and have never used Ableton Live before. It's been very easy to jump right into the projects and produce music. The supplemental downloads are great and easy to use. I've had the pleasure of attending workshops by Will, and now I more fully understand how to use the software and see the possibilities in creating my own course materials. This book is fantastic for anyone looking to use Ableton to create a variety of styles of music. The book covers ambient, hip-hop, modern house, chiptune, dubstep, drum and bass, pop/rock, and more. Check it out!

Great book for learning to work smarter

a lot of stuff that would even be useful if you don't use Ableton, but if you do, this book is a must. Some basic how to info in the beginning, but it's more about creating a workflow and set up that compliment each other. Very well written and a a large number of downloadable material to compliment the book. If you're someone who learns best by doing, this is for you, from the start you're given tasks that expose you to actually using all the things he talks about. Can't recommend this highly enough.

As a music production instructor, I was SOOOOO HAPPY to see this book. It is the most fabulous Ableton book I have seen yet. Unlike the other Ableton books I've used, this book teaches new skills through performance and composition. I'm so excited to use this as the new textbook for my music production classes.

This is a new body of data assembled in large part since World War II, which art historians are only beginning to exploit to fill out the history of technique. Rather than writing merely a history of technique, however, the author has integrated this material with traditional approaches to cultural history. She undertakes to examine twenty major paintings of the period from Giotto to Tintoretto to elucidate how colour and technique contribute to their meaning. She gives us then, the first modern consideration of Renaissance paintings both as physical objects and as monuments of cultural history.

How Renaissance painters used color to unify their pictures, exploit symbolism and achieve emotional expressiveness is the theme of this handsomely illustrated monograph, which focuses on 20 paintings. Hall, an associate professor of art history at Temple University, highlights Leonardo's naturalistic use of shadowy midtones in the Mona Lisa , the way Michelangelo's fleshy hues dynamically link the figures in the Sistine Chapel vault, Titian's predilection for bright, saturated colors to create movement and Piero della Francesca's innovative experiments with oils. Hall makes us realize that, given the Renaissance's limited palette, the harmonious, radiant compositions achieved were marvels indeed. For the Mannerists, she shows, color was just as important as distortions of form in disrupting classical style. This sophisticated study combines traditional analysis with a consideration of recent scientific findings from conservation laboratories.

In this pioneering synthesis, Hall brilliantly conjoins an understanding of the technique and materials employed from the 14th through the 16th centuries with vivid evocations of the role of color within a complex of compositional, expressive, and iconographic requirements. The integral consideration of color as a critical aspect of composition and meaning serves to illuminate and enrich the perception and comprehension of works that are among the major achievements of European painting. Particularly stimulating and valuable are the discussions of works by the greatest High Renaissance masters in terms of self-selected color styles and modal theory. A must reader for any painter with any interest in painting.

A wonderful read, thorough, focused and all about looking. One of only a few books that truly approaches the idea of painting and its history on its own terms. Mrs Hall beautifully discusses ideas of process as being inextricably bound to the idea of particular meaning. Beginning with painting's early interest in the description of likness and the evocation of literal space, she traces a remarkably plausible chronological development wherein all of what are now the standard conventions of painting are discovered. Mrs Hall has written a book that seems custom built for painters; it is wonderful.

Lots of information presented with bright, full color pages of lots of Pokemon

Book was in great condition, and my son has looked at it every day. It has the Pokemon separated by region, so if you're looking for a comprehensive list of all of them up to the Unova region, this book is not what you are looking for. It includes an alphabetical list of the Pokemon found in the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova regions, respectively. It lists the trainers found in each region (and includes those found in the Orange Islands) and which Pokemon they use in their respective gym battles. The pages are bright and fully colored, and hold my son's attention through multiple readings.

About the Author
Tri T. Ha is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Monterey, California, a position he has held since 1989. Prior to joining NPS he worked at Fairchild Industries and GTE, and he was an Associate Professor at Virginia Tech for four years. He is an IEEE Fellow who has written two previous textbooks, and his current research interests are in wireless communications and cyber warfare.

About the Author
Gregory C Chow is Professor of Economics and Class of 1913 Professor of Political Economy, Emeritus, at Princeton University. Educated at Cornell University and the University of Chicago, Prof Chow is a member of the American Philosophical Society and of Academia Sinica and a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and of the Econometric Society. He is the author of 15 books and over 200 articles, specializing in econometrics, dynamic economics, and the Chinese economy, with which he has a long-standing involvement. Prof Chow has served on several committees on Sino-American economic exchanges and has been an adviser to government figures and institutions in China and Taiwan. He is recognized for his contributions to developing and modernizing economics education in China, where he holds honorary posts at nine universities.
