I love a good sci-fi romance but the writer couldn't get out their heads long enough to actually write a good story. Yes I know it was in first person but the history lesson got old fast and so did the ramblings of the characters

The concept of the alien race (Brions) that this author offers is somewhat original.The beginning of the book was a bit boring but I think it somewhat helps the reader to understand the Brion species better and reminds them that they are nothing like humans in the emotions department.Now the love story between Deliya and Darien was okay but not extremely interesting.The story could have been integrated in the second book, "Alien Warrior's Wife" which I also read. The author's writing does get better in the second book for those who complained about her writing in this book. I suggest read the second book as well.It's short like this one but has a much better storyline.

Could have been a good story

Unlike most reviewers, I did NOT get an ARC, I paid for this. The writing was poor but not really bad. There's a lot of telling vs. showing, way too many adverbs, loooong sentences, etc. I found myself getting bogged down in the writing and struggling to read the actual story. Frankly, it read like the author is a non-native English speaker.
The concept of aliens with little squares that showed your emotions is neat but wasn't integral to the plot, so why focus on it? The entire sci-fi aspect could have been removed and the story still would have worked, so that's another fail.
I didn't feel the buildup to sex was there, it was more like, "Hey, we just fought in battle and you saved my life, let's have sex now. And then again." And you had to wade through half the book to get that. It was steamy and well-written here, with the focus on the roughness of this alien race (it wasn't a soft, sensitive scene).
But wait! Then they both spiral into doubt for no reason, and there's no more sex in the book. But they finally discover their alien version of true love after another battle where the heroes magically never get hurt - even with a laser gun on her temple, the alien enemy simply walks away when commanded by Darien! So they speak the same language? And he has some sort of Jedi mind trick powers that were never addressed?
I love sci-fi and I like good erotica. This book could have been good if you gave this concept to another author.
